Overview

Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to plan and coordinate the work of vendors and facilitate development of a quality assurance program which assures Food & Nutrition Services inspections/corrective action plans meet or exceed food service standards by coordinating the work of vendors. This includes assuring that vendor repairs on kitchen equipment are completed on time and have met all applicable code standards. Employees in this classification are responsible for responding to trouble calls in the form of work orders to repair or conduct an evaluation of operating problems to determine appropriate resolutions prior to vendor intervention to ensure vendor assistance is actually needed. This position is distinguished from that of a Technician I – Kitchen Equipment, by the advanced degree of technical knowledge in both the refrigeration and the gas cooking equipment side. Position uses analytical skills to evaluate trends in failure and successes and reviews data from vendor invoices for statistical comparisons. Position ensures compliance of all work with applicable building codes, SREF, and other industry standards. Performs related work as directed.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.

Establishes quality control procedures, in coordination with the F&NS equipment manager and inspects to ensure that such quality control procedures are being followed for both refrigeration and gas cooking appliances.

Reviews and/or assists in preparation of contracts and/or bids and associated specifications for vendors, contractors and/or service providers. Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with contractors, vendors, employees and district work locations.

Organizes and conducts audits of completed work accomplished by employees, contractors, or vendors.

Inspects work in progress and performs daily recording of observations; prepares corrective action plans based on data, observations and reports.

Studies and review data for analysis of trends that indicates improvement is required.

Submits recommendations for any required training to improve quality control processes or skills to correct deficiencies.

Conducts inspections, review failure rates, and ensures compliance for SREF or industry standards. Makes a determination if it is cost effective to repair, or recommend for replacement.

Delivers new equipment to site, remove old equipment. Installs new equipment in accordance with OCPS codes.

Traces electrical circuits, following diagrams, and conduct tests with circuit testers and other equipment to locate shorts and grounds. Refers to schematic drawings, product manuals, and troubleshooting guides in order to diagnose and repair problems. Reads blueprints to determine location, size, capacity, and type of components needed to build refrigeration system. Dismantles malfunctioning systems and test components, using electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing equipment.

Provides feedback on materials and equipment performance to F&NS Equipment Manager. Keep records of time spend and costs of equipment and materials used for work order.

Performs other relevant duties and responsibilities assigned by the F&NS Equipment Manager.

Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.

Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Performs related duties as directed.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by minimum five (5) years progressively knowledgeable and responsible experience in commercial food service appliances, to include review and inspection of quality assurance techniques and responsibilities of both refrigeration and gas appliance installation; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. EPA Refrigeration Certification required. Thorough knowledge of standard quality assurance and quality control processes as they relate to commercial food service appliances. Ability to maintain accurate records and paperwork relative to the inspection of related maintenance and repair work for completeness and quality. Ability to work with a cross-section of school and maintenance personnel, to make many fast decisions under stressful conditions. Must be able to read and decipher manufacture schematics and symbols written in English. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver's license class D and conform to the OCPS safe driver plan.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of motor vehicles conduct inspections, and ability to effectively use standard hand tools such as levels, tape measures, screwdrivers, and testing equipment. Ability to use telephones, computers, cell phone and two-way radios.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive and/or advisory data and information, i.e. plans and specifications, architectural drawings, building and engineer codes in English.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplications and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount interest, profit and loss ration and proportion, may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights and measures.

Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds) and occasionally heavier items (100 pounds or over).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require oral communications ability. Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination.

Environment Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and nose extremes, machinery, vibrations, electrical currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease or pathogenic substances.
