Under general direction, the purpose of the position is to perform school-based duties associated with providing guidance and assistance to students applying for financial aid and VA benefits. Employee counsels students on grant and scholarship eligibility. The Financial Coordinator must adhere to Federal, State, Local and VA regulations to ensure funds are disbursed in an appropriate manner. Performs related work as directed.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
Reviews and verifies information on student financial aid applications for accuracy; counsel students for eligibility of grants and scholarships; answers routine questions regarding policies and procedures.
Prepares and revises payment reports; processes report through automated payment system; prepares and revises monthly scholarship payment report, if necessary.
Assists VA students applying for VA benefits; checks all VA attendance registers for student attendance and monitors monthly progress.
Completes VA forms and mails to central office with applications, enrollment, and status changes; checks all VA approved courses with the state approving agency once a year.
Awards Student Financial Assistance Fund (SFAF) and Federal Pell Grant Fund dollars to students each award year and prepares disbursement vouchers to the Business Office.
Calculate student award amount for the Federal Pell Grant, the student's need for the Florida Student Assistant Grant and the return of Title IV Funds to USDOE for Pell Grant students withdrawing from school.
Enters and package student award information in Campus Vue and distribute award letters to students. Notifies students withdrawing from school of outstanding fees and withdrawal of disbursement of funds.
Maintains an excel spreadsheet of students receiving funds and potential students who qualified but no more funds were available.
Conducts on-going review of completed and revised monthly timesheets and financial aid monitoring reports per payment period to determine adherence to financial assistance standards for satisfactory progress.
Performs periodic reconciliation of payment information for all Pell Grant recipients with Business Office.
Calculate student's need for the Florida Work Experience Program and maintains a spreadsheet of students in the program.
Reviews student applications to determine eligibility for the Florida Bright Future Scholarship.
Attends Federal, State, Veteran's Administration and Regional conferences and workshops to enhance education and awareness of financial aid programs and VA regulations.
Develops consumer information related to Student Financial Aid in the OCPS student handbook, school catalog and fact sheets. Must advertise financial assistance programs to promote student awareness.
Maintains and keeps current Pell Grant program award log and Pell Grant student vendor number log.
Maintains Pell Grant Student Payment Summary Annual Report; maintains and prepares annual Pell Grant student statistical report.
Answers the telephone; takes messages; provides information and assistance to district personnel and the public; relays calls to appropriate personnel.
Prepares and maintains logs and schedules.
Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes word processing, database, and software programs.
Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department activities, which may include a typewriter, calculator, or fax.
Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by a minimum three (3) years previous experience and/or training in a clerical/accounting related capacity, or any equivalent combination of related education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions. Knowledge of financial aid programs for vocational or technical training preferred.

ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.
Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
