Under direction, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled to advanced craft-mechanical refrigeration systems work in various installation, maintenance and service tasks for the school district. Employees in this classification perform master level refrigeration trades work with considerable independence and latitude in judgment concerning methods, materials, and priority of assigned work orders. Position is responsible for service and maintenance to both commercial and domestic refrigeration equipment. Performs related work as directed.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
Performs skilled to advanced craft-mechanical refrigeration system trades work in various installation, repair, maintenance and service tasks for the school district.
Receives work orders, prioritizes assignments, and coordinates equipment, tools, materials, and supplies required per job site; determines equipment, materials, tools and supplies required per job site.
Services equipment including, but not necessarily limited to, walk-in freezers and refrigerators, chest and domestic freezers and refrigerators, ice machines, and water coolers.
Observes and tests malfunctioning equipment to determine cause and appropriate corrective action; refers to parts, service and technical manuals in determining service specifications and for ordering parts and components.
Installs, maintains or services systems and components, to include setting and adjustment of thermostat controls, replacement of defective components, and preventive maintenance and equipment monitoring.
Performs preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules, i.e., cleaning coils, replacing rusted components, checking belts for wear and lines for leaks, checking integrity of wiring.
Performs cleaning and maintenance of equipment, tools, materials, and vehicles utilized per work site; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe equipment use and operation.
Coordinates assigned work orders in a manner to minimize disruption in routine district activities.
Ensures compliance with and adherence to applicable codes, ordinances, and building, and safety standards refrigeration systems installation, service and repair activities.
Fills out and maintains work orders for required materials, parts, and equipment; maintains daily activity logs and refrigerant recovery and usage records; maintains vehicle service records.
Responds to emergency or critical incidents in order to confine, resolve, and/or prevent food loss or environmentally hazardous conditions.
Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Vocational/technical training in refrigeration systems; supplemented by minimum (3) years progressively knowledgeable and skilled trades work in the field, the majority of which shall be in servicing commercial/industrial refrigeration systems, with demonstrated equipment troubleshooting and diagnostic skills; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Requires ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license class “D”; requires training in refrigerant handling and recovery.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds) and occasionally heavier items (100 pounds or over).
