Under direction, the position functions as lead educational interpreter and resource coordinator for Deaf Hard of Hearing (DHH) students enrolled in the district’s exceptional education program or may be assigned to a school performing highly skilled classroom interpreting. Position facilitates communication between students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing involved in the educational process through the use of sign language, oral interpreting, and/or other communication resources needed to accommodate DHH students who qualify to receive these services. The Communications and Records Unit (CRU) is positioned within Safety and Security’s OCPS District Police. CRU is responsible for coordinating district-wide police and public safety-related communications and the administration of law enforcement records. In addition, CRU staff provide communications coordination and support to other units within the department and throughout the district. CRU’s Communications Center is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the entire year. Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide assistance in the education, care, and development of students with severe disabilities. Employees in this classification perform instructional, clerical, and behavioral management duties. Work is performed under the direction of a certified teacher, guidance counselor, or administrator. The Program Assistant, District ESE Specialist works under the supervision of the learning community behavior analysts (Administrator); district Program Specialist for behavior analysis within OCPS; or an ESE Director. The Program Assistant, District ESE Specialist will be itinerant and provide technical support throughout the district (ESE and general education classes), pertaining to students with severe cognitive and/or behavioral disorders. This includes all grade (Pre-K–12th) and age (3-22) levels.
